USS Cole bomber killed in Airstrike

January 6, 2019

President Donald Trump has confirmed that the hunt for Jamal al-Badawi, the #al-Qaeda militant behind the cowardly attack on the USS Cole, in the port of Aden, in 2000, has come to an end, with him being killed by a US #airstrike in #Yemen.

The attack on the USS Cole came without warning while the #American destroyer was refueling, the attack killed seventeen sailors and seriously maimed 40 others.

Convicted by a grand jury back in 2004 and then imprisoned, #Badawi managed to #escape from his #Yemen jail before later handing himself into authorities remarkably, after handing himself in, he was allowed to walk free.

Badawi was not alone and not the only planner in the attack, the other planner #Saudi-born Abd al-Nashiri is being held at #Guantanamo Bay and could receive the death penalty, the other two #Yemeni #suicide #bombers used a small boat packed with 500lb of high explosives to ram the ship leaving a gaping hole in its side.

An obviously delighted #President #Trump #tweeted; "Our great military has delivered justice for the heroes lost and wounded in the cowardly attack on the USS Cole’.
